More about the Verde River:
The Verde River is a perennial river running freely for 170 miles (274 km) through private, state, tribal and US Forest Service lands before reaching the confluence of the Salt River. The river source is Sullivan Lake near Chino Valley, AZ and also seasonal snowmelt from the 3 surrounding National Forests. The Verde River is a special resource, as recognized by the U.S. Congress in 1984 when 40.5 miles of it was designated as a Wild and Scenic River program. It is steeped in history, going back to the Sinagua Natives. The Verde River waterway is the perfect place to learn about the history of the area while experiencing first-hand the beauty and diversity that exists along our local rivers and creeks.
