2 Day Canyoneering Class
We offer a two day technical canyoneering class about two hours from Phoenix, Arizona, in the pristine wilderness of the Sierra Ancha. We are located on the North side of Roosevelt Lake.
This class is intended to provide you with the foundational skills necessary to begin exploring the technical canyons of Arizona and the Colorado Plateau. It is suitable for singles, couples, families and groups interested in the spectacular world that we discover in the canyon environment.
We spend the night camping in a beautiful pine forest, and our guides will provide all meals, snacks, and drinks. Also included is all technical equipment necessary for this course, in addition to any camping supplies that you may need for a pleasant night outdoors.
We meet you onsite at the canyons on day 1, and begin with instruction on canyon ratings, map reading/orienteering, group management, sequencing and spotting. The second half of the day will be spent teaching rappelling skills. We will also cover ropes and equipment, proper technique for rappelling, how to add friction to your rappel, tying off on rappel, as well as wet disconnecting. The second day we will begin with knots, and then apply these knots into basic anchor building concepts. The second part of that day will be spent assessing and creating anchors utilizing previously learned skills.
