3 Day Canyoneering: Ranch

Our guided canyoneering trips and tours can include accommodations at our adventure ranch. This 3-day trip will immerse you in the world of wilderness adventure, while providing you with a bit of extra comfort.

Tucked away in the remote wilderness of the Sierra Ancha, accessible from either Phoenix or Sedona, is an area where saguaro cactus is only miles from high country pine forest. The region is filled with crystal clear creeks and rivers, and blends everything amazing into one of the most pristine diverse places in the state. The entire area seems alive, and is a miracle of the desert that produces deep pools, natural waterslides, magnificent waterfalls and is mixed with pine forests, cactus, and beautiful multi-colored stone. These trips will bring you into some of the most remote places in Arizona, and into the heart of the canyon experience.

These trips bring couples and families together, allowing you time somewhere beautiful and quiet to reset the mind, while experiencing that healthy feeling that comes from pushing ourselves a little bit and succeeding at a challenge. It seems to empower people giving them a sense of well-being when you arrive back at the ranch, and when you combine the adrenaline during the day with the beauty of the night sky, a cold drink and a campfire, you simply cannot go wrong.

The first day we provide a comprehensive ground school training before dropping into our first technical adventure, involving either Hog and/or Firstwater canyons, both are gems of the remote Ancha. At night, we will enjoy sitting by the fire next to Reynolds Creek on the private 27-acre Rocking X Ranch where the skies are so clear the beauty cannot be described. Take a stroll around the property, or relax in your own cabin equipped with electricity, hot showers and wood burning stoves. We will cook your dinners hot, at times with traditional Dutch Oven style cooking. At times we grow many of the vegetables we use in our meals on site at the ranch. Vegetables just do not get fresher than that! A hot cooked breakfast, as well as lunches, snacks and drinks are also included, as is all bedding, pillows, and needs for the cabins. We also provide your technical gear, guides, and training for the canyons.

On the second day we provide a 4x4 off road backcountry drive to the Western Edge of the Ancha, where we will take you to the Salome wilderness. The canyon here is renowned for big sculpted grottos and lots of water. Many sections we will float through narrow granite corridors while watching the desert landscape float by above us. At the end we rappel a waterfall that is always flowing. Tonight we relax by the campfire and celebrate our success.

The third day, we will put our skills from the first two days into practice, descending one of our guides' personal favorites. Imagine floating out into space sixty feet above the ground right next to a beautiful cascading waterfall. This final canyon also hosts narrow slotted sections and huge walls.

Rock Climbing trips/days can also be planned into this three day trip upon request.

All of our guides are experts in the area, one permanently lives here. All guides are qualified Wilderness First Responders through the Wilderness Medical Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School. We are permitted by the US Forest Service in all of our areas.

For these trips, we will meet you on the north side of Roosevelt Lake at the Rocking X Ranch, and directions will be provided upon reservation.

This same trip/itinerary can be run either with our upgraded Master Cabin accomodations, or be conducted using overnight camping based accommodations in the area.
