Grand Canyon Backpacking: Rim to Rim
CenterFocus offers guided rim to rim backpacking trips in Grand Canyon National Park. This trip will take us across the Grand Canyon from North to South while traveling through this National Park.
This rim to rim backpacking trip begins in the heavily forested, wildflower covered environment of the North Rim. We will descend the N. Kaibab trail, stopping at a waterfall at Roaring Springs, the source of Bright Angel Creek and the water supply for the South Rim of the canyon. We spend our first night under the starry sky of the high desert camp of Cottonwood Campground.
The following day, we continue down the North Kaibab Trail hiking along Bright Angel Creek, crossing the river on numerous foot bridges. Along the way we will explore an off-trail side canyon to see Ribbon Falls, a spectacular site! Eventually we will arrive at the Colorado River where we will camp for the evening, near the historic Phantom Ranch.
On the third day we hike along the Colorado River, up Pipe Creek, stopping at some nice swimming holes. From there we tackle the challenging Devil's Corkscrew to Garden Creek. We then follow Garden Creek to Indian Gardens Campground, where we camp in the shade of old cottonwood trees at a site originally used to grow crops by Havasupai Natives. Typically we take a hike out to Plateau Point to enjoy the setting sun from a predominate vista.
The final day we climb through Jacob's Ladder, past ancient pictographs, and high above the Battleship before topping out on the South Rim.
